The Whitechapel Centre

Our resettlement and floating support teams aim to give homeless or inadequately housed people the support they need to access and maintain their own accommodation.  Service users have a named support worker who will work with them and support them to achieve mutually agreed goals.  Our philosophy is one of empowerment and encouraging the people we work with to be responsible for their own choices, action and behavior.  

Our Resettlement team works with those who are identified as being ready to move on and get their own independent tenancy with support being provided for a period of 6 months after they have moved in.  This project can also assist people with support needs who have recently moved into independent accommodation and require help in developing the skills they need to maintain their tenancy.  Two workers on this project work specifically with older people.

Working closely with local drug and alcohol treatment agencies, our Harm Reduction / Dual Diagnosis team provides housing support to help clients obtain and/or sustain suitable independent accommodation whilst at the same time helping them to address their substance misuse issues.   We provide support around a range of issues, including budgeting, benefits, health, daily living, socials skills and access to education and training.

Within this service there is specialist provision for:

• Harm reduction – for Liverpool residents, aged 18 or over, who use drugs, alcohol or both, are in housing need, and are at risk of drug/alcohol related harm.
• Young people- for people aged 16 – 21 years, in any accommodation setting, who are in housing need, resident in Liverpool and have substance misuse issues.
• Dual Diagnosis – for people aged 16 or over with mental health issues (diagnosed or not), who use drugs, alcohol or both, are resident in Liverpool City Council’s boundary, and are in housing need.

This service is funded by Liverpool Supporting People and Liverpool Addiction and Offender Health team.
