Susan came to Liverpool in 2008. In 2011 she told us her story and, as part of our 50th year, we're sharing it here. “I was living on the streets. I didn’t have an education - I couldn’t read, write or understand my bills. Until I went to The Whitechapel Centre and got a keyworker and started a night course.
“I am now in my own flat and have a support worker. I know how to read and write, and can even tell the time. I am glad to have a support worker to help me - without them I don’t know where I’d be.
“Please keep the Whitechapel open, it does people good.”
