My health went downhill with very high blood pressure and stomach ulcers. My stomach swelled up so badly from the ulcers that had to be rushed to hospital. I remember waking up from being completely unconscious with family all around me in an intensive care unit.
Everyone was expecting the worst, but I pulled through. However, while I was recovering in hospital I had a fall, injuring my ankles and breaking my hip. I was homeless and had nowhere to go.
An agency managed to find a place for me in Sheil Road but there were lots of problems in the property with drugs and sex workers in the block.
I had heard about the Whitechapel Centre years earlier from some friends and decided to call into the Enablement Centre to see if they could help me. I had nothing and Whitechapel were fantastic. They helped me with everything I needed; providing bedding, kitchen crockery, pans, utensils and the means to get food. The Whitechapel Centre really helped me turn things around. They sorted out debts, my entitlement to benefits and eventually found a beautiful flat close to family and friends. I now see my ex-wife regularly to help with gardening and my daughters visit me all the time. My support worked helped me get a bus pass and I love to go to Albert Dock or visit my brother in Speke.
My health has improved now that I don’t have the stress I used to have. I can’t thank Whitechapel enough for all they have done for me."
