Volunteering at Christmas Christmas is the busiest time of year for us, and it’s incredible how all our local communities come together and want to support us during this time. A lot of people are really passionate about coming in and volunteering with us during the Christmas Period.
Every year, we have a dedicated team of seasonal volunteers, our Christmas Elves, who help us in the run up to the big day – this includes help with sorting and receiving donations, putting together festive food parcels and gift bags, and delivering donations between our different sites.
This year, our Christmas Elf recruitment period will run until 30th November. After this date, we will be closing volunteer recruitment until next year. We have limited places available on our Christmas Elf programme and we have to prioritise volunteers whose availability and interests match the current gaps in our Elfing schedule.
Christmas Day Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate any volunteer applications for Christmas Day and Boxing Day – these can be some of the busiest and most difficult days of the year for our Service Users, so we only have our most experienced volunteers active on these days.
When are we Elfing? We have available Elfing Sessions Monday mornings (10am -1pm), Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and afternoons (10am 1pm, 1pm -3.30pm), and Friday mornings (10am – 1pm). We are hoping for an ongoing commitment from our Elves for the festive period, so unfortunately if you only have a day or two available for volunteering the role probably isn’t for you.
Any Elves who have their own vehicles and would be happy to use them in the course of their volunteering are always needed – we transport a lot of stuff about every day! We're also looking for Elves who will be able to stay active in their volunteering until at least the end of January 2024 (although you are always welcome to stay longer!).
When aren’t we Elfing? Our Elves aren’t active of an evening or weekend, and we are only currently looking for help during the sessions mentioned above – our Elves are joining our regular donation volunteer team and we have limited space available.
