Severe Weather Emergency Provision
The Severe Weather Shelter is CLOSED.
During the winter The Whitechapel Centre operates the Severe Weather Shelter for rough sleepers. The Shelter offers a warm and safe place to stay overnight; hot food and drinks and a change of clothing, if needed.
The Shelter is open to Rough Sleepers from 10pm through to 8am the following morning and remains open every night until overnight temperatures increase to above 2°C.
This service is activated when:
Until 2017 the service operated from St Stephen’s Church, Crown St, Liverpool, L8. The premises were sold earlier this year and we are currently working with Liverpool City Council to secure planning permission for a new venue. While new premises are secured, we are using Mildmay House, and other venues - a temporary, fall back provision. Mildmay House is temporary accommodation in a residential area and access to it needs to be managed carefully to reduce the impact on the current residents and the community. Due to mobility / disabled access, along with the site layout at Mildmay it has been necessary to use more than one venue. For these reasons partners, referrers, rough sleepers are asked to contact the No Second Night Out number, allowing us to direct people to the right venue.
When the Severe Weather Shelter is due to open, all agencies which have contact with rough sleepers are notified so no one has to freeze on the streets.
