Aigburth Drive Hostel is a Harm Reduction Service for men who need support to manage their alcohol use. The service recognises that some people who use alcohol may not be ready to stop using and become abstinent. Harm reduction provides wrap around care and support to keep people safe whilst in active addiction. Our focus is on reducing the negative consequences of alcohol use rather than on eliminating (although abstinence may remain the ideal goal).
Each resident has a key-worker who agrees a plan with them and supports the service user to better manage the risk of harm associated with use and work towards being ready to live independently in their own accommodation. The service has weekly visits from a neuropsychologist, a nurse from Brownlow GP practice as well as regular welfare rights and legal drop-ins There is an activities programme run by our New Beginnings team, an optional evening meals service and regular visits by opticians and barbers. The Service is provided jointly between the Whitechapel Centre and SHAP Ltd. |
