Standard Wills can be prepared without fees – we hope you would be able to make a donation when your Will is prepared and/or leave a legacy in your Will instead. If your Will is more complex you would be given credit for the standard Will and then only pay the additional fee.

Writing a Will ensures that you are in control of what happens to your money and possessions, protecting the people, and causes, you care about most. Many people are inspired by life events or changes to their personal circumstances to write or update their Will, such as marriage or divorce, a new arrival or death, moving home or a change to their financial situation.

Around one in three people in the UK will die without making a Will, yet it is a simple process which gives you peace of mind and ensures your wishes are understood. It is also an opportunity for you to make a positive difference and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

We want to see an end to homelessness, social exclusion and housing poverty in our community. Sadly we are seeing an increasing number of people coming to us for help. Leaving a gift in your Will to The Whitechapel Centre will help us reach more people and change more lives.

Why should I make a Will?
Surprisingly one in three people in the UK die without writing a Will. This can leave behind costly and upsetting disputes and may even see the Government disposing of your estate. You may not consider yourself to be wealthy but you may be surprised at how much your estate is worth when you include your house, pension and belongings. Including a charitable gift may also help to minimise your estate’s Inheritance Tax liabilities.

How do I leave a gift in my Will to The Whitechapel Centre?
The cost of using a solicitor or will-writer depends on how complicated your Will is. These professional bodies will direct you to solicitors or will-writers near you:

If you have already written your Will you can amend it to include a gift to us with a Codicil form. This is a short document you can add on to your Will.

What type of gift can I leave?
There are a few different ways to leave a gift:
* A Pecuniary legacy is a gift of a specific sum of money e.g. £1,000
* A Residuary legacy is a share of your estate after you have provided for your family or friends.
* You can also leave specific items to charity e.g. a car, jewellery, books etc

How will my gift help?
No matter how big or small, your gift will have a lasting impact on our work with people who are homeless.

* £1,000 could open our centre for two days – providing vital services and support for rough sleepers
* 5% of a £250,000 estate could pay for the recruitment, training and travel of our team of volunteers for a year

What is your full name and charity number?

How will my money be spent?
We hope that you will entrust us to spend your money on the most urgent work at the time. We will use it carefully so that it has the greatest impact. However, if you prefer, you can specify a certain area of our work to support.

Do I need to tell you that I have left a gift?
There is no requirement for you to let us know but we would love to hear from you. If you do tell us, then please also let us know if you would like us to keep in touch with occasional updates on our work.
