Who can use this service:
Open to single people over 18yrs old who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, require a period of support before they can live fully independently and who have been assessed as suitable for living in shared accommodation. It is envisaged that most applicants will be under 35 years old as above that age people are eligible to housing benefit for self contained accommodation in the private rented sector. The majority of clients referred to this project have been assessed through one of Whitechapel’s resettlement, support or outreach projects.
To access the service call in to one of our drop-in sessions or complete a referral form online and we will contact you.
Support and housing management is provided through regular visits by our support workers at the properties Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
We currently have shared properties in L4, L9, L13 and L7.
The Whitechapel Centre is pleased to be working with LHT to provide transitional shared supported accommodation for our clients who are homeless or in housing need and suitable for shared living. These single-sex properties provide a valuable resource in helping to accommodate clients for whom shared accommodation is a more appropriate option for example, those that would be subject to the shared accommodation rate from housing benefit. Each person has their own furnished bedroom whilst sharing kitchen, lounge and bathrooms with others resident in the house. Clients can live in these properties for a period of time whilst addressing their support needs and preparing for further independence.
Support is provided by our experienced staff to help clients with a variety of issues whilst developing their independent living skills and working towards independent accommodation. They also provide a housing management role to ensure that the properties are maintained to a high standard.
