Can you spare any of your time to help The Whitechapel Centre? Do you have a passion for fashion, love to rummage? Do you enjoy a natter and a chance to meet new people? Do you have a flair for finding a bargain or spotting a treasure? Want the chance to unleash your creative side on our window display?
Retail volunteer
Where? This role is based at Open Door Allerton Road and Open Door Waterloo
When? Shifts are Monday – Saturday, 10am to 13.30pm and13.30pm to 5pm
What will I be doing? You will be supporting our staff in delivering a unique retail experience whilst raising vital funds for the Whitechapel Centre. Open Door isn’t your average Charity Shop – it has its own flair and unique aesthetic, and a dedicated local following due to the quality of the items on sale. You will help to process sales, restock shelves, merchandise, and sort through incoming stock of donations, and generally help staff in the upkeep and running of the shop. You will also be engaging with members of the public and donors regarding the work of the Whitechapel Centre.
What skills do I need to do this? You’ll be reliable, friendly and approachable, and happy to engage with people. Good with communication, and good with IT (or be willing to learn!). An interest in fashion or creative arts is helpful, but not required! Attention to detail and being organised can be very helpful too. Most importantly, happy to work as part of a team and get stuck in. You’ll need to be over the age of 18 as well.
Once we have received your volunteer application, you will be contacted and invited to an informal face to face chat, where we will tell you more about The Whitechapel Centre, the role that interests you and answer any questions you may have. All volunteers will be required to provide 2 referees.
